Age group: 18-24 inclusive. Single female. 
English is the main official language in South Africa. However, there are 11 official languages. During your time as an aupair you could learn some basic Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa or Pedi.

Education standard year 12 or equivalent if having done year 11 and then a course to make 12 years of education.
Aupairs:
200 hours of childcare and/or babysitting experience, working with youth groups, teaching Sunday School.
Nannies:
Nanny Training Certificate – Diploma. B.Ed. early childhood. Minimum 1 year in a childcare centre or traineeship or minimum 1 year live in with a family as a nanny.

SafariA driver’s licence is compulsory. S.Africa drives on the left hand side of the road.

South Africa is a large country so a family placement could be in one of the coastal cities such as Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town or in an inland city such as Bloemfontein, Kimberley. However, most placements are in the area to the north of Johannesburg [Sandton, Randburg, Fourways, Lone Hill] where financially comfortable families live and where JCR’s International head office is situated.

AUPAIR

  • Works 30 – 40 hours per week depending on the family requirement.
  • Babysit  2 evenings a week.
  • Looking after the children, driving the children.
  • Very basic tidying up and some cooking for the children as all households have full time domestic cleaning staff.
  • Earn pocket money of R3000 net  per month depending on the number of hours worked and experience.
  • 1.5 – 2 days free per week.

NANNY

  • Works 40-55 hours per week  depending on family requirement.
  • Babysit 2 evenings a week.
  • Sole charge of children including meal preparation for the children. There will be little or no house work as all households have full time domestic staff.
  • Earn R4000-4500 net per month depending on qualifications and experience.

Placements are for 12 months and are all live in.

12 months health insurance, is a requirement for the aupair visa. Health cover can be provided by the South African Office at a very reasonable cost.

The above are guide lines only. Each family has its own requirements. The program is a controlled program in that you may only remain in South Africa for 12 months. The visa is not family interchangeable as it is issued to the host family only.

The cost of living in South Africa compared to the UK is very low. For example the cost of going to the movies is about £2 and other entertainment is equally as reasonable. Eating out is a lot less than in the UK. R3000 goes a long way and will enable you to go on tours and have an enjoyable social life.
